Privacy & Legal Information

OVERVIEW

Lever for Change collects and processes your personal information that is provided by or about you as a person interested in our organization and may obtain information about you, including email addresses, from third parties for purposes of providing you information about Lever for Change. This Privacy Notice is provided to you in accordance with applicable privacy laws including, but not limited to, laws implementing the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR) (the “Data Privacy Laws”). The GDPR applies only to residents in the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK. 

This Notice explains what information you may provide to us and how we use your information. Lever for Change takes the protection of personal information seriously and will never use data we collect for commercial purposes.

We welcome the public to visit our website (the “Site”), which can be browsed without the need to submit any personal information online. We also offer you the opportunity to sign up for newsletters and other communications. For those visitors who visit our Site without signing up for electronic communications, we may collect your Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (i.e., a numerical label assigned by your Internet Service Provider that provides host identification and label addressing, the browser and type of machine you are using, the website that referred you to us, and the pages of our Site that you visit).  

For those who visit our Site and sign up for our electronic communications, we will collect the information above in addition to the data you provide to us voluntarily on data forms, such as your name, company affiliation and e-mail address. If you provide us with your consent to receive these types of communications, we will offer you the right to unsubscribe in each electronic communication we send. This information is not shared with third parties, and you can unsubscribe at any time via a link at the bottom of each message.

The personal and public information collected from you may be used by Lever for Change generally to improve the Site, to provide you with information and event invitations, to generate usage or demographic statistics so that we may better understand your needs, to measure Site activity, and to improve the Site’s structure in helping users better locate needed information, all of which is intended to enhance the usefulness of the Site to our visitors. We may also use the personal and public information to educate ourselves about the interests of our visitors for purposes of better serving the community and our grantees. As noted, we will not use any personal information for commercial purposes. Any use of this Site for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited.

PRIVACY

YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

Your personal information includes any information relating to you where you are identified or from which you are identifiable. This includes your name, contact information, information about where you work and, if applicable, where you live and your use of our services.

We may collect various types of personal information from different sources, including:

  • Information you provide directly to us when you subscribe for news and updates, including through the Site;
  • Information we collect about your dealings with Lever for Change;
  • Organizations with which you may be affiliated or other third parties who provide us with your details for consideration regarding potential grant awards; and
  • Lists of contact information, including email addresses from third parties, including other funders.

What We Do with Your Personal Information

All the personal information we collect from or about you is used if at all only in the course of our charitable activities.

You may also consent to us using your personal information for additional purposes not described in the Privacy Notice but which we consider may be relevant to you or of interest to you from time to time. We will not use your personal information for these additional purposes without your consent. You have the right to tell us that you do not want to be contacted by us for these additional purposes any time after you initially provide your consent. 

We are also permitted to process your personal information to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations and/or our contractual obligations to you and to manage any technical issues or support requests that may arise.

Some of your personal information is processed by us in the United States, where we are based, and we may also share it with partners and third parties in other countries outside Europe or the UK with a lower standard of data protection laws as may be applicable in your country of residence. You expressly acknowledge and agree to the transfer of some of your personal information to the United States and such other countries as will be disclosed to you at the relevant time, which may have a lower standard of data privacy laws than in your country of residence. Our security measures are described below in this Privacy Notice.

We do not allow any third parties to have access to your personal information, except as required or permitted by applicable laws or in accordance with the Privacy Policy. We may disclose your personal information to our subcontractors, agents, or payment service providers (who may be located in the United States) that we contract with to assist us in providing the services, provided that any such subcontractors or agents shall agree in writing to comply with the privacy and security standards described in this Privacy Notice.

We do not share email addresses or information about visitors to our Site with third parties.

There may be also instances when we disclose your personal information to other parties, including but not limited to, the following:

  • To comply with the law or respond to compulsory legal process (such as a search warrant or court order) or request for information from a regulator or otherwise for legal purposes;
  • To verify or enforce compliance with the policies governing the services; or
  • To protect the rights, property or safety of Lever for Change, or any of our respective affiliates, business partners, or customers or otherwise in the legitimate business interests of Lever for Change and/or our affiliates and in accordance with Data Privacy Laws.

In any instance where we need to share your personal information with third parties, we will restrict the nature and categories of personal information to that which is required to comply with our contractual obligations to you or our legal and/or regulatory requirements. We may de-identify your personal information to protect your privacy.

How We Protect Your Personal Information

Lever for Change understands that storing data in a secure manner is essential. Lever for Change stores personal information and other data using reasonable physical, technical and administrative safeguards to secure data against foreseeable risks, such as unauthorized use, access, disclosure, destruction or modification. Although we make good faith efforts to store the information we collect in a secure operating environment that is not available to the public, we cannot guarantee complete security. Further, while we work to ensure the integrity and security of our network and systems, we cannot guarantee that our security measures will prevent third-party "hackers" from illegally obtaining this information.

How Long We Keep Your Personal Information

We retain your personal data in accordance with our business needs and for legal, regulatory, audit and tax requirements. After this period the personal information relating to your account and your use of the services will be deleted.  Any personal information which you have provided to us for receiving information and event invitations will be kept until you notify us that you no longer wish to receive this information. 

COMMUNICATIONS FROM LEVER FOR CHANGE

We would like to use your name and email address to inform you of our news, updates and details of our activities. As discussed above, we will offer you the ability to unsubscribe in each electronic communication and will not share your information with third parties, except as expressly described elsewhere in this Privacy Notice. 

WHAT ARE YOUR RIGHTS?

You have the right to ensure that your personal information is accurate. To make changes to your contact and other account information, or to opt out of receiving marketing communications, please contact us as described above. You have the right to request that we delete your personal information. You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal information and/or to access your personal information. Your rights are subject to the applicable Data Privacy Laws.

If you wish to raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal information, you can contact us by email, phone or post (details above) and we will investigate the matter and respond to you promptly. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to any applicable data privacy authority in your country of residence.

TECHNOLOGY

Certain Non-identifying information  (“Data”) that is collected about you when you visit the Site is used to enhance your user experience.

Lever for Change and vendors acting on its behalf may use the Data in combination with various Internet technologies to help manage Site operations, track user traffic, and gather broad demographic information.

We may use IP addresses to diagnose possible technical problems, administer our Site, and aggregate data on use. Log files, which identify every request made to our server, may be used to determine statistically which areas of the Site our visitors prefer and to prepare future content based on the interests of our visitors.

We may also use “cookies” to better serve our visitors. A “cookie” is a small data file that certain websites write to your computer’s hard drive when you access the site. A cookie file can contain information, such as a user ID, that a website uses to track the pages you have visited, but the only personal information a cookie contains is information you supply. Our site and HTML-formatted e-mail communications may use web beacons in conjunction with cookies to understand a visitor’s behavior. A web beacon (also called a single-pixel or clear GIF) is an electronic image that can recognize certain types of information on a visitor's computer, such as a visitor's cookie number, time and date of a page view, and a description of the page where the web beacon is placed. Some web beacons may be unusable if you elect to reject their associated cookies. We may also use customized links or other similar technologies to track e-mail links that you select. We may associate personal information with the Data to provide you more focused e-mail communications. Each e-mail communication includes an unsubscribe link allowing you to stop delivery of that type of communication.

ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

Following your registration on the Site, Lever for Change may with your consent provide you with electronic communications that it or third-party service providers engaged by Lever for Change publish from time to time. These communications describe the work of Lever for Change and its partners, the benefits that the work brings to the community at large, and other information of interest to Lever for Change community.  You may opt out of receiving these communications at any time.

The Data, including the information entered by you on our Site, may be provided on a confidential basis to one or more third-party service providers that we engage to maintain contact databases and/or send messages on Lever for Change’s behalf. They are required to take technical and organizational measures to protect the Data and only use it for these purposes or other authorized purposes related to Lever for Change’s activities. However, third-party service providers are prohibited from renting, selling, leasing, circulating, or otherwise distributing this information for use other than the services they provide to Lever for Change. The Data may also be aggregated with or linked to information already existing in the Lever for Change database.

We do not share the Data with other recipients without your express consent.

Please note that Lever for Change may with your consent allow these third-party vendors to send you electronic communications on its behalf. Each third-party vendor has its own privacy policy, and should you subscribe to that particular electronic communication, you will be subject to that third-party vendor’s privacy policy as well. Additionally, each electronic communication that is sent will indicate how you may unsubscribe if you so desire.

CONSENT TO TRANSFER 

This Site is operated in the United States. If you are located outside the U.S., please be aware that any Data you provide to us will be transferred to the United States, which may provide a lower level of protections as those in your own country. By using the Site, you consent to this transfer, retention, and processing of your information in the United States.

OTHER RIGHTS

There may be times that you wish to access your personal information that we hold. We will provide you with access to your personal Information in accordance with your legal entitlements, so you can instruct us to correct or update the personal information if it is inaccurate, or delete your personal information if you do not want us to retain it, although we may still need to do so by law, for legal purposes, including claims management, or for a legitimate business purpose. CONFIDENTIALITY

Lever for Change is the sole owner of the Data collected on the Site. Lever for Change will not sell, rent, share, exchange, or otherwise disclose the Data to others outside of Lever for Change, except as described in this Statement. Lever for Change will attempt to collect and store the Data in a manner to protect its confidentiality, recognizing that no transmission of data is entirely secure.

We may disclose or provide Data pursuant to subpoenas, warrants, or other judicial or government orders, in the event an individual’s safety or security is at risk, or as otherwise required by law.

UNSUBSCRIBE

Our electronic communications provide users the opportunity to opt out of receiving future automated communications from us. If you wish to unsubscribe to a newsletter you receive from a third-party provider, please follow the third-party provider’s instructions located in the publication to unsubscribe.
